Saphala means 'fruitful' or 'successful'. The Brahmanda Purana narrates the story of Lumpaka, an evil prince who lived immorally. Yet, by accidentally observing Saphala Ekadashi fast (he was too weak from illness to eat), he was transformed and eventually attained Vishnu's abode.
