📅 Monday, April 13, 2026
About Papmochani Ekadashi
Papmochani Ekadashi falls in the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of Chaitra month, typically in March-April. The name comes from Sanskrit: "Pap" (sin) + "Mochani" (liberator/destroyer) — making this the "Sin-Liberating Ekadashi."
This is considered one of the most powerful Ekadashis for spiritual cleansing. It is believed that even the most grievous sins accumulated over countless lifetimes are destroyed by observing this Ekadashi with sincere devotion.
Papmochani Ekadashi is the last Ekadashi of the Hindu lunar year (as the new year begins with Chaitra Shukla Pratipada). It's like a spiritual reset button before the new year begins.

📖 The Story of Meghavahana and Manjughosha
The Bhavishya Uttara Purana narrates this story: In the Chyavana Rishi's ashram lived a beautiful apsara (celestial nymph) named Manjughosha. The ashram was filled with sages performing intense penance.
Indra, the king of gods, became worried that these sages might acquire powers to challenge heaven. He sent Manjughosha to distract them. She arrived during spring when the air was filled with fragrance and koel birds were singing.
Among the sages was a young and handsome tapasvi named Meghavahana. Manjughosha tried to seduce him with her beauty and dance. Unfortunately, Meghavahana fell from his spiritual heights and spent years in sensual pleasures with her, abandoning his penance.
When Meghavahana finally realized his grave error, he was consumed with remorse. He had lost decades of spiritual progress and accumulated terrible sins. In despair, he sought Chyavana Rishi's guidance.
The compassionate sage advised him to observe Papmochani Ekadashi with complete devotion. Meghavahana followed the instructions precisely — fasting, praying, and staying awake all night. By the grace of this Ekadashi, all his sins were destroyed, and he regained his spiritual position. Even Manjughosha, observing his transformation, observed the fast and was purified of her part in the sin.
