About Vijaya Ekadashi

Vijaya Ekadashi falls in the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the Phalguna month. The name "Vijaya" means "victory," and this Ekadashi is famed for ensuring success in all endeavors, especially those that seem impossible.

What makes this Ekadashi extraordinarily special is its connection to Lord Rama. According to the Skanda Purana, Lord Rama Himself observed this Ekadashi before launching His campaign against the demon king Ravana, ensuring His ultimate victory.

🏹 Lord Rama's Connection to Vijaya Ekadashi

When Lord Rama was preparing to build the bridge (Rama Setu) to Lanka and rescue Sita from Ravana, He sought divine guidance. The great sage Bakadalbhya advised Lord Rama to observe Vijaya Ekadashi before the military campaign.

Following the sage's counsel, Lord Rama, along with His brother Lakshmana and the entire Vanara army led by Hanuman, observed this sacred fast. After the Ekadashi, they successfully built the bridge, crossed the ocean, and achieved the legendary victory over Ravana.

This is why Vijaya Ekadashi is considered the most powerful Ekadashi for those facing seemingly impossible challenges.

📖 The Story from Skanda Purana

Lord Brahma narrated this story to his son Narada: During the Treta Yuga, when Lord Rama was camping at the seashore with His army, wondering how to cross the vast ocean to reach Lanka, He was filled with concern.

At that time, Sage Bakadalbhya appeared and said, "O Rama, I know why You are troubled. Listen to me. There is an Ekadashi in the Krishna Paksha of Phalguna month called Vijaya. If You observe this Ekadashi with devotion, You will certainly cross this ocean and defeat the invincible Ravana."

Lord Rama followed the sage's instructions precisely. After observing Vijaya Ekadashi, the sea god Varuna appeared and provided the way for building the bridge. The rest is the glorious history of Ramayana.
