About Jaya Ekadashi

Jaya Ekadashi, also known as Bhoumi Ekadashi, falls in the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) of the Magha month. The word "Jaya" means "victory," and this Ekadashi is believed to grant victory over all material attachments, negative tendencies, and even ghostly existence.

This Ekadashi is particularly powerful for those seeking liberation from past karmic bondage and freedom from cycles of suffering. It's said that observing this Ekadashi with devotion can even liberate souls trapped in ghostly realms.

📖 The Legendary Story of Malyavan and Pushpavati

In the heavenly realm of Indra, there lived a Gandharva named Malyavan and an Apsara (celestial nymph) named Pushpavati. They were deeply in love. Once, during a performance in Indra's court, they became so absorbed in each other that they neglected their duties.

Furious at their distraction, Indra cursed them to become Pishacha (ghosts) and live on Earth in a dark forest. For many years, they suffered in ghostly forms, enduring hunger, thirst, and extreme weather.

One Magha Shukla Ekadashi, they unknowingly observed a fast—not eating due to their miserable condition—and stayed awake all night in cold. By the merit of this accidental Ekadashi observance, they were immediately liberated from their ghostly existence and returned to their celestial forms.

Lord Vishnu named this Ekadashi "Jaya" (victory) because it grants victory over even the most terrible conditions.
