โญ Why Nirjala Ekadashi is the Most Powerful

Nirjala means "without water" (nir = without, jala = water). This is the most austere and rewarding Ekadashi of the entire year.

๐Ÿ† Supreme Benefit: Observing this ONE Nirjala Ekadashi grants the combined merit of observing ALL 24 Ekadashis in a year!

๐Ÿ“– The Story of Nirjala Ekadashi

The Brahma Vaivarta Purana tells the story of Bhima, the mighty Pandava known for his enormous appetite.

Unlike his brothers, Bhima could not fast on Ekadashis because his hunger was unbearable. He felt guilty for missing this sacred observance while the rest of his family fasted devotedly.

Troubled by this, Bhima approached the great sage Vyasa for guidance. Vyasa understood Bhima's predicament and advised him to observe just ONE Ekadashi โ€” but the most difficult one โ€” completely without food or water.

๐Ÿ’ช Bhima observed Nirjala Ekadashi with tremendous willpower. By enduring this single difficult fast, he gained the merit of all 24 Ekadashis. This is why Nirjala Ekadashi is also called Bhima Ekadashi or Pandava Ekadashi.
